“But for the sacrifice and hard work of the aforementioned personalities and others, the accelerated development we are witnessing would not have been possible” he stated.

FEATURE: Good leadership begets good transformation-the case of Akatsi North District

A competent and reliable leader is one who does not throw his hand in despair but is able to innovate and make judicious use of available resources to promote growth and development.

Leaving by the advice to think outside the box, the Chief Executive of the Akatsi North District, James Gunu is indeed thinking outside the box and has since introduced some blue prints that point out to his commitment to lifting the district to a new height. These innovative ideas are geared towards bringing the infant Akatsi North District at par with long established Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the country. To him, leading the District as its first Chief Executive cannot be business as usual but an opportunity to make a difference by bringing social and economic improvement to residents.

MMDCEs advocate establishment of Rural Development Grant for districts

Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives have suggested the establishment of Rural Development Grant targeted at district assemblies in the country.

This was one of the recommendations contained in a communiqué issued at a meeting recently at GIMPA.

In an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, James Gunu, District Chief Executive for Akatsi North stated that though there are more developmental needs in the districts compared to Metropolitan and municipal assemblies because of the rural nature of the communities in the district, there is no specific fund targeted at ensuring accelerated development in the districts. Unlike Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies that benefit from the Urban development grant (UDG) in addition to district development facility (DDF) which is open for all assemblies, the districts are not fortunate in this regard.
