JASIKAN: Stakeholders improve education to avoid cholera

The Jasikan District Assembly in collaboration with the District Health directorate has intensified its sensitization efforts to create awareness to prevent cholera outbreaks in the district.

Mr. Killian Abrampah Kwame, District Chief Executive said residents in the district have existing practice of organizing communal labour to clean their environments once every month and with the outbreak of cholera in many other MMDAs, the assembly has intensified this practice to make it more effective.

He indicated that cholera is highly controllable if only one practices the best personal and environmental hygiene, adding that paying little attention to your environment should be a priority to all individuals and not only district assemblies. Nonetheless, the assembly is not reneging on its roles to maintain clean environment.

According to the DCE,  through the services of the district environmental health department and the  information services departments a lot of residents have been educated on proper management of wastes and how to take care of themselves including hand washing.

The DCE also said enforcing sanitation bye-laws is also an important measure being taken seriously to deter recalcitrant residents from going contrary to directives. “There is also regular fumigation and burning of refuse dump sites to ensure they do not breed diseases", he added.

He said the district has not recorded any cholera case and they hope it remains this way especially with the measures being taken.
