The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) is to commence disbursement of funds to flood/victims in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region under the Emergency Leap Programme.
Four hundred and Thirty-five (435) individuals suffered losses in September this year in the district when floods, and rainstorm submerged their farms and caused damage to their buildings as well thereby worsening their plights.
MoGCSP as part of its social intervention programme, initiated the Emergency LEAP programme by taking inventory of their loss and registered them for financial assistance under the programme.
Under the package, each of the 435 individuals would receive GHs100 for three months covering the period September to November, 2016.
Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com, Madam Theresa Ayagiyire, the Social Welfare Officer at the Talensi District disclosed that payment of GHs200.00 per person covering the first two months (September and October, 2016) would be paid in early November with the third payment of GHc100 for the month of November, 2016 would be paid from 21 -25 November, 2016.
She said the 44th payment to the 488 households, with 1358 beneficiaries on the LEAP programme in the district was carried out only two weeks ago.
Madam Ayagiyire was attest to the fact that the cash transfer has impacted positively on the lives of the beneficiaries as a number of them now have economic activities including keeping livestock and poultry as well as engage in petty trading that has boost their income.
