Apostolic Church inaugurates welfare foundation

The Apostolic Church Ghana has inaugurated the Apostolic Relief and Welfare Foundation (ARWEF) to help make more meaningful contributions into the life of others.

The inauguration which was under the theme: “Share your food with the hungry and provide them with shelter”-Isaiah 58:7, was aimed among other things to provide financial, emotional and social support to widows, orphans, the needy in the church and the community as well as other vulnerable groups in society.

The fund is also targeting institutions that provide social services like hospitals, orphanages, prisons and the National Disaster Organisation (NADMO) to be able to respond swiftly and effectively to the needs of the people especially during emergencies like natural disasters. Others include brilliant but needy children to pursue their educational ambitions while others will pursue skill training programmes.

Delivering his sermon, Vice President of the Apostolic Church, Ghana, Apostle Peter Okoe Mankralo said food and shelter fall under first priority known as physiological needs which implies that these basic needs cannot be overlooked, adding that "we are given to give to others who need it.

The Akatsi Area Head and Chairman of the board of trustees of the funded, Apostle Apenuvor urged members to contribute to the fund to make their objectives achievable and sustainable.

District Chief Executive for Akatsi North, James Gunu who was a guest at the function said the church must not allow capitalism to take over the church rather it should concern itself with both physical and spiritual well-being of its members. He commended the church for the initiative and asked them to partner with government and the district assemblies to better the life of Ghanians. According to him, the church still remains relevant in the growth and development of every society, and this should remain important to them.

Mr. Gunu also used the occasion to congratulate women on the international Women's Day celebration urging them to take centre stage in welfare and relief issues.

The Apostolic Relief and Welfare Foundation (ARWEF) is to be administered in 7 districts in the Volta Region including Akatsi North, and South, Ketu North and South, South and Central Tongu as well as Keta Municipality.
