Residents laud establishment of CHPS centre at Agortoe

Agortoe CHPS Centre

It was with excitement that people of Agortoe, a community in the Keta Municipality narrated their relief as far as the establishment of a clinic in the area has brought to them.

With funds from the Japan Embassy, the Agortoe community has health facility that ensures easy accessibility to health care especially during emergencies.

The community-based health planning service (CHPS) compound which is targeted at providing primary health care to residents in the area has ward, consulting room, OPD, store and sanitary facilities. It is also fitted with water harvesting and storage facilities.

More importantly, to ensure the presence of health personnel at the place at all times, there is also attached to the centre nurses’ quarters which houses few of the nurses.

Some patients Ghanadistricts.com spoke with at the facility recounted how they used to struggle to access health care until the CHPS centre was put up that allowed them to timely seek medical attention.

They said pregnant women are most importantly favoured by the intervention as they no longer go through long hours of journey to get to hospital which used to be in Keta. “With also a considerable good access road, we count ourselves lucky this time round”, one of the patients stated.

Mr. Tornyea, the Municipal Chief Executive on his part stated that government has attached so much importance to making health accessibility a possibility to all especially those in deprived areas. It is for this reason that all MMDAs have been charged to spearhead this development.

He said the special focus given to the health sector especially with regards to infrastructure development by government at the national level cannot be overemphasized as this is evident in the numerous health projects currently ongoing across the country.

“This government is determined to made health accessibility easy for all especially those in deprived areas; and in doing so the government is also very much concerned with the quality of service. I’m sure very soon quality health delivery will be one of the strengths of this country” the MCE added.
