782 households receive LEAP benefit in Ketu South Municipality


Seven hundred and eighty-two poor householdes in the Ketu South Municipality have received financial support under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme, Municipal Social Welfare officer, Divine Yevoo has stated.


Mr Yevoo said the money paid to the beneficiaries covered November and December of last year which was in areas. According to him though the Assembly received GHs51, 996.00 from government, it disbursed GH46, 418.00 to 782 households out of 880 as 98 beneficiaries were absent for various reasons.Beneficiary households received between Ghs48 to Ghs90.

Meanwhile government has promised to clear the rest of the arrears spanning January this year to date from September 2013.

The Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme is a social cash transfer programme which provides cash and health insurance to extremely poor households across Ghana to alleviate short-term poverty and encourage long term human capital development.

 The programme supports three categories of people including care givers for orphans and vulnerable children, aged above 65 who are too weak to engage in any economic activity, and those with severe disability
