Sanitation:Assembly to enforce bye-laws-Ketu North DCE

Chief Executive of the Ketu North District in the Volta Region, Claver Kofi Lawson has indicated that the assembly is poised to improving on the gains made in the last four and a half years.

The chief executive who was responding to new targets set for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives said performance targets have always been there except that emphasis is now being put on some specific areas that seem to be a problem in all the assemblies.

He said water provision received major boost in the last administration with about 100 boreholes provided to deprived communities. This notwithstanding, he admitted a lot need to be done and the assembly will not rest on its ores in this regard.

Touching on sanitation, Mr. Lawson disclosed that collaboration between the assembly and Zoomlion has yielded positive results but needed to be sustained.  The major problem he noted has to do with peoples’ attitude. According him, when people behave in a particular way for a long time, they develop a habit which is difficult to change. However, it is up to leaders of the various assemblies to stand firm to insist the right things are done by enforcing bye-laws to the later.  “After all it is the responsibility of the assemblies to ensure that the environments in their jurisdiction are tidied and make habitable” he insisted.

He maintained that the targets are just wake up call to ensure assemblies enforce their bye-laws to the later especially in prosecuting offending persons.
