Care Givers urged to educate children

Care Givers for orphans and vulnerable children under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty LEAP programme have been urged to give priority to educating the children under their care and also give the children the best care, love and affection.

Municipal Social Welfare officer at the Ketu South Municipal Assembly, Divine Yevoo gave the advice at the beneficiary forum for after the disbursement of fund to beneficiaries.

Mr. Yevoo warned against exposing such children to child labour or any form of income generating actity as that may not be taken lightly if any of the care givers is found culpable. He rather urged them to send the children to school and to retain them so they can become useful to themselves the society in future.

Mr Yevoo disclosed that the event is a normal activity organized to assess the impact of the LEAP programme on beneficiaries and to solicit views from beneficiaries on ways the programme can be improved if any at all.

According to him, the programme is a social intervention hence it must be seen to be impacting positively in the lives of the beneficiaries. Anything short of this requires some modification; and to achieve this, one has to interact with the grass root (actual beneficiaries) and the forum is the best platform, he stated.
