ICT to lead reform to increase revenue

Sam Atukwei Quaye, Municipal Chief Executive for Ga West has expressed his determination to finding ways to improve revenue of the assembly especially internally generated funds.

According to him, the assembly has to do more to increase its revenue base to be able to deal with the many developmental challenges confronting people. He noted that over reliance on central government would only slow down the pace of development unless the assembly does something different.

In view of this, Mr. Quaye disclosed that information and communication technology (ICT) would be used as a catalyst to achieving this feat.

He noted that the assembly will rely on ICT to identify houses for effective collection of property tax, while also relying on it to reduce corruption among revenue collectors.

Other considerations for increasing revenue would also include among other things outsourcing of revenue collection to the private sector, prosecution of defaulters. These measures notwithstanding, the MCE   said the assembly would also venture into areas for that matter potential business like establishment of municipal cemetery while taking over management of all public cemeteries, development of modern markets, and establishment of community center for social engagements among others to raise money.
