About two thousand
final year students due for Basic Education Certificate Examination in the
Talensi District in the Upper East Region are in camp for the next two weeks
until they commence final exams.
The students camped in
seven different clusters across the district will have the privilege to be
taught by qualified examiners especially in English, Mathematics and Science. Apart
from content, they will also be guided to be able to answer questions correctly
in the exams.
The Talensi District
Assembly in collaboration with the District Director of Education and have
instituted a number of measures to improve the fortunes of education in the
district, and the current move to camp the final year JHS students is one of
them.
District Chief
Executive, Edward Awunnore in
an interview with Ghanadistricts.com indicated that the assembly will be
responsible for feeding the students and teachers for the two weeks camping expected
to end on the 13th of this month.
According to him, the
district is determined to end the poor performance of students in the BECE, and
expressed optimism that these measures will give them a head start over others
in the region and country wide. “Considering our unannounced visit to the
schools and intensified supervision, there is hope all concerned have been
giving off their best, and we expect this to reflect in the performance of the
students in this year’s BECE”, the DCE stated.
He also assured of
strict protection to ensure safety of the students during the camping.
