The President who was addressing the nation on Thursday evening, hours after the Supreme Court verdict said Ghana has once again distinguished itself as the beacon of democracy in the continent, adding that we as a people should allow this land mark case to move us forward and strengthen our democracy.
He commended all and sundry for the manner we comported ourselves throughout the entire duration of the election petition and advised that this victory must speak to the success of Ghana. He also reiterated his resolve to uniting everybody to working for a common goal of socioeconomic development.
According to him, though the country faced some mirage of challenges from labour agitation, electricity, gas among others, government has started to deliver on those challenges and today’s ruling will even urge government to focus on accelerated development.
The last eight months of President Mahama’s presidency was full of uncertainty following the petition brought against his legitimacy by Nana Akuffo Addo, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party and two others but the supreme court in its ruling validated the declaration made by the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Afari Gyan on 8th January, 2013.
