The team lead by Dr. Christiana Amoako Nuamah met with the Traditional Council from the area to discuss issues towards successful implementation of the project.
The Acting Kornor, Nene Osayim Odokor Tume I indicated that the proposed university was a manifesto promise by the ruling NDC government and said that the siting of the Eastern University in Somanya would transform the area and bring a lot of benefit not only to the people of Somanya and the Eastern Region but the entire nation including the future generation. He added that about 500 acres of land has been ear marked for the start of the university.
He underscored the importance of education to every nation with particular reference to countries such as Russia in the area of space science and eulogized the foresight of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah for his wisdom to establish atomic energy as far back as independence.
Dr. Amoako Nuamah, stated that political leaders are elected into office for only one purpose and that is to ensure that the lives of the governed are improved hence government will do its best to fulfill the promises it made to the people. She said that though the proposed university with its accompanying opportunities was going to be in Somanya, it would benefit the entire nation.
Dr. Nuamah however cautioned the media to be circumspect in their reportage on the project in order not to rush government on this project adding that a lot of work has to be done behind the scene and not to judge government merely on unavailability of physical structures on site at the moment.
The Chairman of the implementation team Prof. R. B Bening made the point that though the would-be university is intended to respond to a peculiar problem faced by the region, the university is not only for the Eastern Region.
Minister of Education, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said before students get to the university they would have gone through the basic and secondary schools system and hence the need for parents and all stakeholders to pay attention to the children education at these levels. The Education Minister added that there is no child who is less brilliant and given the right training and appropriate they will all excel.
She argued that once students are well prepared there would be fair playing ground for competition and there would not be any need for protocol admission and stressed that she is considering reviewing the protocol system under her administration and may not give room for such protocol admission to continue.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Helen Ntoso reiterated her confidence in the people of Somanya and Yilo Krobo in general for their readiness to collaborate with government for the successful establishment of the university.
The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Andrews Sodah also expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Yilo Krobo for the honor done them by choosing the municipality for the university and assured that the assembly and the people will do everything possible for the actualization of the project.

Padi Tetteh; Kwame Dattey; Paul Dzandu; Dr. Nicholas Iddi; Dasebre Prof. Emeritus Oti Boateng I – Omahene of New Juabeng Traditional Area; Hon. Helen A. Ntoso – Eastern Regional Minister; Dr. Paul Effah – Higher Educational Consultant; Prof. Mahama Duwiejua – Executive Secretary, National Council on Tertiary Education.
