Residents laud establishment of CHPS centre at Agortoe

It was with excitement that people of Agortoe, a community in the Keta Municipality narrated their relief as far as the establishment of a clinic in the area has brought to them. 

With funds from the Japan Embassy, the Agortoe community has health facility that ensures easy accessibility to health care especially during emergencies.

The community-based health planning service (CHPS) compound which is targeted at providing primary health care to residents in the area has ward, consulting room, OPD, store and sanitary facilities.It is also fitted with water harvesting and storage facilities.

Offinso North District rewards hard working staff

Some hard working workers in the Offinso North District have been honoured for their immense contributions towards the development of the district.

The four, who were recognized, included Elijah Ofori-Badu, Kamal-Din Mukhtar, Gbang Dorsah Dery, and Christian Pepprah Mensah.

District Chief Executive, Samuel Appiah-Kubi commended the entire staff for helping the assembly overcome a number of challenges and implementing programmes and policies geared towards improving the living conditions of the people.

Forty-five new bedsitter houses completed in the Keta Municipality


Some forty-five new residential houses under the Keta Sea Defence project have been completed in the Keta Municipality.

The 15 each bedsitter houses built at Adzido, Vodza, and Kedzi are targeted at providing suitable and conducive roof over the heads of residents who lost their houses as a result of the sea defense project.

The houses come in 3, 2, and 1 bedroom depending on the family size.

JASIKAN: Boost for ginger production-processing factory soon

For many Ghanaian farmers, lack of value addition has been a major challenge to their business and the effects of it have always been very expensive. 

In times that there are glut, there are very few options left for the farmer to manage to break even not even to talk about profit as middle men take advantage of the situation to robe the farmers of their produce at ridiculous prices. 

But for ginger farmers in the Jasikan district in the Volta Region, luck might soon shine on their business as measures are being instituted to permanently address the issue of glut and lack of market for their produce.

AKATSI N: Assembly on course to exceed IGF again-DCE

The Akatsi North District Assembly looks forward to achieving yet another impressive performance in revenue mobilization this year far better than it did last year.

It is already looking glorious just half way through the year and if statistics are anything to go by, then the Assembly will for the second consecutive year be exceeding its revenue target by way of internally generated fund (IGF).

Speaking to ghanadistricts.com at the Regional Budget Hearing of MMDAs in Ho on Wednesday, District Chief Executive for Akatsi North, James Gunu disclosed that as at June 30th, the assembly collected GHs67, 292.32 out of the targeted GHs88, 358.00 of its IGF representing 76.2%.

JASIKAN: Stakeholders improve education to avoid cholera



The Jasikan District Assembly in collaboration with the District Health directorate has intensified its sensitization efforts to create awareness to prevent cholera outbreaks in the district.

Mr. Killian Abrampah Kwame, District Chief Executive said residents in the district have existing practice of organizing communal labour to clean their environments once every month and with the outbreak of cholera in many other MMDAs, the assembly has intensified this practice to make it more effective.

DA JHOSA donates to Ave Dakpa D/A JHS


Dakpa Junior High Old Students Association (DA JHOSA) has donated sign post to the Ave Dakpa D/A Junior High School in the Akatsi North District in the Volta Region to make the school easily recognizable.

This and other contributions to the school are the association’s way of giving back to the school that started it all for them to get to where they are today.

At the commissioning of the sign post, Mr. James Gunu, District Chief Executive urged students to lead decent and exemplary lives in school and pursue their academic work with determination and focus in order to create better opportunities for the future.

Nzema East Municipal Landing beaches assist communities

Landing beach Committees in the Nzema East Municipality in the Western Region have been called upon to serve the people well without discrimination.

The Municipal Chief Executive, James Atta Kakra Baidoe in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com rated the performance of the four landing beach committees in the municipality including Apewosika, Lower Axim, Upper Axim and Brawire Landing Beaches as satisfactory, but noted that there were times that people complain about mode of distribution.

KWAHU EAST: Nana Antwi Siaw confirmed DCE

The Kwahu East District Assembly finally got District Chief Executive having gone almost a year without one to spearhead activities of the district.

This time, the President’s nominee, Nana Antwi Siaw (aka Hayford Quaye) has been approved one touch by the assembly members during voting.
Out of the 32 assembly members present, Mr. Siaw polled 25 votes representing 78.12% as against 7 no representing 21.88% to be confirmed the new DCE.

Rehabilitation of Kwabenya-Abom Junction road underway


The contractor has mobilized and is currently on site working seriously with bulldozers to get the road back in shape to ensure motorists have smooth journey on that road.

Assemblyman for Atomic Electoral Area, Cornelius Addo said the rehabilitation work was long overdue, adding that though contract for the project was awarded three years ago, the project could not take off because of lack of funds.

AKATSI N: Over 500 residents undergo free health screen/treatment

Over five hundred (500) residents from Agormor, Avevee, and Ave-Dakpa communities in the in the Akatsi North District in the Volta Region have received free medical screening and treatment. 

The screening was made possible through the kind courtesy of the district assembly and the Disaster Volunteers Organisation of Ghana (DIVOG). 

It brought a team of 10 medical students and 2 medical doctors from Tempo University Medical School, Philadelphia-USA led by Dr. Oakland Morgan.

Lower Manya Krobo confirms Jacob Frederick Acolatse as MCE

Assembly Members at the Lower Manya Krobo District Assembly have endorsed the President’s nominee for the Municipal Chief Executive, Jacob Frederick Kwame Acolatse. 

Mr. Acolatse who until his appointment was the Acting Managing Director of the Ghanaian Times News Paper polled 30 votes out of 45 assembly members present with 14 against and one rejected vote to get the nod to superintend over the affairs of the Municipality. 

He replaces Mr. Isaac Agbo-Tetteh was recently relieved of his post as the Municipal Chief Executive for the area.

Ketu North Assembly among best performing districts in revenue mobilization

The Ketu North District is one of only eleven districts in the Volta Region that have performed well in revenue mobilization in 2013.

This was disclosed by Mr. William Akoto, Chief Local Government Inspector in the Volta Region at a function in Ave-Dakpa.

The district shares this honour with the Ho, Hohoe, Keta, Ketu North, Adaklu, Krachi West, North Tongu, South Tongu, Ho West, and Afadjato South Municipal/District Assemblies.

When Ghanadistricts.com contacted the District Chief Executive, Mr. Claver Kofi Lawson said the assembly looks forward to doing even far better this year and initial performance shows they are on course.

Per the weather forecast from the Meteorological Service Department, the country should expect more rains this June and perhaps in July.

The worry as a country is not the rain per say, because we need the rain for a number of things especially to boost crop production and more importantly our energy requirements as the two major energy sources, Bui Dam and Akosombo Hydro-Electric Power all depend on rain to function effectively, but the aftermath of each downpour.

In the capital city of Accra, some communities cannot contain 30 minutes of heavy downpour. It becomes headache and a matter of life and death, and as such any change in weather means seeking where to find safety until the rain subsides if it really falls.

Abura DCE hands over land for construction of fish market

A more suitable and convenient fish market is to be constructed at Moree in the Abura Asebu-Kwamankese District in the Central Region to enhance the sale of fish in the area.

District Chief Executive for the area, William Atta-Mends who handed over a one acre land for the construction of the market underscore the importance of the market, adding that being a fishing community, it is the hope of the assembly to liaise with   other stakeholders to improve infrastructure that will boost trading activities of their people. He said the market is in line with measure to reduce poverty in the area by empowering the people economically.

Talensi Assembly camps students ahead of BECE



About two thousand final year students due for Basic Education Certificate Examination in the Talensi District in the Upper East Region are in camp for the next two weeks until they commence final exams.

The students camped in seven different clusters across the district will have the privilege to be taught by qualified examiners especially in English, Mathematics and Science. Apart from content, they will also be guided to be able to answer questions correctly in the exams.

Anti-smuggling team intercepts 91 bags of cocoa bean in Juaboso district

Ninety-one bags of cocoa beans being smuggled into Ivory Coast have been intercepted by the Anti-smuggling team in the Juaboso District in the Western Region.

The 91 bags of cocoa beans were intercepted in two separate operations within three days intervals.

MP hands over refurbished Agona Nkum clinic



The Member of Parliament for Agona West, Charles Obeng-Inkoom has handed the refurbished Agona Nkum Clinic to the community.

The community clinic which was over 20 years old was crying for maintenance until the MP decided to intervene to bring it back to live to serve the people better.

The general renovation and refurbishment saw new roofing, and ceilings made, and painting of the entire facility.

DCE commends NDC Gov’t for creating district

Mr. James Gunu, District Chief Executive of the Akatsi North District has paid glowing tribute to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), President Dramani Mahama, his predecessor late President Mills, the Speaker of Parliament Doe Adjaho, the Member of Parliament for Akatsi North Peter Nortsu Kotoe who was then the DCE for Akatsi, and traditional authorities in the Akatsi North District for their roles in the creation of the Akatsi North District.

“But for the sacrifice and hard work of the aforementioned personalities and others, the accelerated development we are witnessing would not have been possible” he stated.

A competent and reliable leader is one who does not throw his hand in despair but is able to innovate and make judicious use of available resources to promote growth and development.

Leaving by the advice to think outside the box, the Chief Executive of the Akatsi North District, James Gunu is indeed thinking outside the box and has since introduced some blue prints that point out to his commitment to lifting the district to a new height. These innovative ideas are geared towards bringing the infant Akatsi North District at par with long established Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the country. To him, leading the District as its first Chief Executive cannot be business as usual but an opportunity to make a difference by bringing social and economic improvement to residents.

MMDCEs advocate establishment of Rural Development Grant for districts


Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives have suggested the establishment of Rural Development Grant targeted at district assemblies in the country.

This was one of the recommendations contained in a communiqué issued at a meeting recently at GIMPA.

In an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, James Gunu, District Chief Executive for Akatsi North stated that though there are more developmental needs in the districts compared to Metropolitan and municipal assemblies because of the rural nature of the communities in the district, there is no specific fund targeted at ensuring accelerated development in the districts. Unlike Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies that benefit from the Urban development grant (UDG) in addition to district development facility (DDF) which is open for all assemblies, the districts are not fortunate in this regard.

Mr. Emmanuel Dede Appiah, the District Chief Executive for the Amansie Central in the Ashanti Region has donated some sporting equipment to his alma mater, Jacubu Senior High Technical School.

Apostolic Church inaugurates welfare foundation

The Apostolic Church Ghana has inaugurated the Apostolic Relief and Welfare Foundation (ARWEF) to help make more meaningful contributions into the life of others.

The inauguration which was under the theme: “Share your food with the hungry and provide them with shelter”-Isaiah 58:7, was aimed among other things to provide financial, emotional and social support to widows, orphans, the needy in the church and the community as well as other vulnerable groups in society.
